Death & Dying

إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

” Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhiraji’un.”

“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return.”

– Quran 2:156

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” is a verse of the second chapter of the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 156).

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” is a verse of the second chapter of the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 156).

Muslims around the world cite it in times of hardship, loss, and death. Yet, it is not exclusive to Muslims but spans across religions and nationalities. It serves as a universal expression of condolences in the face of loss and grief.

It signals faith, trust, and acceptance of the will of God and acknowledges that life – each life – originates and returns to Allah.

Death – less conventionally referred to as the One-Way ticket out is the only outcome guaranteed for all of us. It is neither linked to our pocketbook nor our status. There is not first, business or economy class.

Death is a concept that remains unaddressed at best and silenced at its worst. Families have a difficult time dealing with the notion of a forever goodbye. Regularly the opportunity is missed to give an active goodbye, to affirm the dying that it is all right to let go , and that family members love them deeply but accept the patient has to go. they miss the opportunity to allow the dying member to surrender and to move forward on their journey. But they ultimately must – and you too need to let you…
